I love nature, theme parks, and human rights. Sometimes I write. "Let the things you love be your escape."
The next few days and moments will be very telling for us here in the Not-so-United States. Please help us. If not, we might as well no longer exist.

It's been a while since I've posted here, but ICE is in my town this morning taking people away. Part of me wants to live in denial, but the bigger part of me is so afraid for so many of the people I know. How can any human willingly do this work? "I'm just following orders" is BS.

I’ve taken the Senate floor and will speak for as long as I’m physically able to lift the voices of Americans who are being harmed and not being heard in this moment of crisis. Watch here:

Cory Booker is the hero we need. If you haven't checked out his filibuster, it's still going strong. Senators still fighting for the light, follow his example.

Sunrise yesterday. Sometimes it feels like the sunrises just don't matter anymore, that beauty, peace, and nature have to take a back burner to the more pressing matters we face. But the sun keeps rising and one day the bad days will be a mere memory.

A nice surprise. The book fairy delivered two books I've really been looking forward to reading. Now, fiction or non-fiction? Where do I start?

Today's recommendation is a little off the beaten path, but I just started watching Frieren and the themes of learning to value life and coping with loss are woven into this fantasy anime in a really interesting way. A good distraction from real life chaos but also some meaningful life lessons.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Is a Masterclass Anime That Puts Grief on Display
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End shows real grief.

"Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe."--Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

It's a great day for an economic blackout.

One of the local radio stations I listen to subtly gave a nod to the efforts this morning and it brought a little tear to my eye.

It's been a couple of weeks since my last book recommendation and I'm sorry for the delay. It's been busy around here. But I just started reading this one today and it's pure gold. Enjoy!

I'm not sure when it happened, but I started associating the national parks flag with hope. It's a beautiful day to believe in the power of nature and the hope of change for our broken nation. Sending love and appreciation to the real heroes of our country.

A Handmaid's Tale chapter 28 really hits differently these days. It makes me wonder what fresh horrors we might see seemingly out of nowhere. Please, everyone do what you can while you can. Be kind to your neighbors and stay close to your friends. We need each other right now.

As more tech CEOs seem willing to put their companies’ culture and technology at the behest of the US government, it’s good to remember which platforms have access to what data.
When Platforms and the Government Unite, Remember What’s Private and What Isn’t
For years now, there has been some concern about the coziness between technology companies and the government. Whether a company complies with casual government requests for data, requires a warrant, ...

In case you're missing your super bowl party this year, you can still have a party with junk food and drinks. The game doesn't have to be turned on. Go outside and play football with family. Have a board or video game night. Watch a movie. You'll hear about it on the radio tomorrow morning anyway.

Taking a break from doom to see The Book of Mormon performed live in a conservative leaning city. Feels like rebellion, especially when there are so many conversations between friends double checking that their friends understand what this story is. Enjoying the freedom I once took for granted.

Book recommendation of the week. I really enjoy YA sci fi and dystopia and this series was pretty thought provoking back when it came out, dealing with life, death, implications of technology, and a pretty decent lesson about the dangers of self-driving cars.

I'm going through tons of different emotions today. When I was a child many years ago, I made the mistake of saying he would be president someday because he was so wealthy. Everyone laughed. I really wish we could all laugh now. How do we stop the madness?

Amid all the chaos, I had an experience today that reminded me that even if we feel like we can't do much on a larger scale, small local politics matter, too. If we can influence even one person to think about their beliefs on even one topic, that's worth something.

Books are freedom. So I might recommend a book or two once in a while. This one is wonderful, full of hope and bravery. It's an easy read if you're feeling hopeless, especially given some of the news today.
