Formerly a racing cyclist but now a professional cycling coach (adults, one-to-one, for health, keeping fit and performance). Also a piano teacher, cellist, runner, walker, gardener
If only this perspective could appear in the Telegraph or Daily Mail! I read it and think it's all so obvious - but the RW media sings another tune altogether.

"Let’s not forget all the ineffectual and insubstantial attention-seekers who acquired state power: Boris Johnson, Liz Truss, Kwasi Kwarteng, Rishi Sunak, Suella Braverman and, of course, Kemi Badenoch. Put them all together and the result isn’t even half of a decent politician." Nesrine's on fire!

I'm not sure why this wasn't bigger news nationally - everyone thinking of voting for Reform should know that they would like to limit press freedom.

I just feel very old because it seems like only yesterday that women were being ordained for the first time. Unfortunately it was a while ago and I AM very old.

EXACTLY.

It may have a long way to go but someone has to start the ball rolling somehow.

Cyclocross isn't quite up there with, say, gymnastics for elegance is it?

Gloriously irreverent and quite brilliant.

Here's hoping!🙂

Why only 100 of our MPs? These issues should be a significant concern to all of them.

I didn't say I don't care about London. I was being invited to fill my Bluesky feed with posts about London. I was politely declining and make a not-very-important point that a lot of the media is quite London-centric. It's really not a big deal (to me).

Or rather, the changes will be imposed on 500 farms a year. I guess ALL >£3m farms will now have to think ahead and do some IHT estate planning!
November 23, 2024 at 1:42 PM
I think this fact check shows the government and the CLA are in agreement. "... the CLA told us that 20,000 farms would be impacted over the course of the next 40 years" which is 500 farms a year, as the government says.

They're both correct. 500 farms a year need to think about estate planning.
November 23, 2024 at 1:40 PM
Yes, but won't you think of the 'poor' farmers who can only keep £3m of their wealth before having to pay half the IHT of everyone else (over a 10-year period)?

I understand your focus on London, of course. But London is very unique and not at all representative of the rest of the nation, so I'll keep a wider national focus if that's OK.

FWIW I don't blame the individuals. It's the British establishment and the obsequious forelock-tugging of the peasant classes that facilitates it. Stop being so in awe of wealth, royalty and celebrity. These are not attributes to command respect!
