And even then, SH1 and 2 were never that scary. There are many other games with more effective fear factor than SH. Though if we're taking storytelling and presentation into account, SH does reign supreme.

It's just that most of what you do in this game outside of the main quest is recover some trinkets, kill robots, and settle small disputes because the cool history is... well, cool history.

More like "the world building in general is too cool for the otherwise standard side quests". It ain't just the idea of the ancient past. The amount of detail that went into Carja history alone, the recent civil war, and the entire backdrop of how these tribes came to be is all interesting stuff.

Tbf, they're all Tenakth. lol Their culture all stems from the same place, unlike HZD's tribes. We do still get new cultures like the Utaru and Quen, though I do think HZD connected them all better with the shared history with the Carja.
