it wasn't! if i were to attribute the choice for music box arrangements to any game, it would be klonoa. its storybook/lullaby aesthetic was a major influence on my style.

in fact, bobby was really influenced by kirby, which is also dream themed. so that's where the name "reverie" came from. 🙂

Hi folks! We have big news: we’re launching a Patreon!

Why we’re doing this:

The trajectory of Infloresce Records, as things stood at the end of 2024, was unsustainable. We foresaw that the label was growing past our ability to tend to it without compromising our wellbeing and principles.

After talking to folks, including other creatives, label runners, and members of our collective, we’ve decided to make some changes:

– Infloresce Records will no longer be taking a percentage of our artists’ album sales. We’ll be stepping back from the business and logistical side of the label in order to focus on being creative and nurture our community.

– We’ll still be releasing albums and hosting community events as usual. We’ll continue to offer creative support to our artists and distribute releases on our Bandcamp page.

– In order to fund our album projects and labor-intensive community events like Snowdrop Festival, we’re turning to the support of folks who like what we do! What our Patrons can expect in return is to have access to our library of resources; exclusive tracks; name credit; journal posts; and access to a monthly live Q&A where Aivi, Miles, and other Infloresce members will answer your questions on stream.

To celebrate the launch of our Patreon, miles morkri and aivi have released an exclusive collaboration called “sertraline”. The Infloresce collective has also put together an incredible resource bundle of sheet music, stems, samples, liner notes, and tracker modules. These are all available for download today for folks who become Patrons.

Thank you for your generous support over the years. We hope Infloresce can keep its doors open for many more years to come!

In light of the US National Park Service censoring all references to trans & queer folk from their Stonewall page, today’s a great day for MARSHA’S MYTHIC BRICK, a spell of queer rage from my Little Book of Wicked Spells:

Marsha’s Mythic Brick

a spell of queer rage

Hidden or known
Named or unnamed,
Rise in your power
And unleash your pain.

Taken too soon
Reviled, erased
Help us smash down
The walls of their hate.

Marsha never really threw a brick. By her own account, she wasn’t even present when the Stonewall riots began. She and a friend arrived closer to two that night. But the mythic history around Marsha P. Johnson and the brick that smashed open a new era of gay rights has grown beyond the narrow confines of simple fact. The brick as well as Marsha herself have become transfigured symbols. This spell is about harnessing those symbols and everything for which they stand: queer rights; queer freedom; and queer rage.

For this spell, you need a brick. On one side of the brick, write out the words of the spell. On the other side, write the names of queer martyrs: names that inspire you; names that you mourn; names directly or indirectly connected to your own story. Take this opportunity to add more than those names you easily recall and learn their stories, too. If you have too many names to fit (or your brick does not hold ink easily) write the names instead on a piece of paper and wrap this around the brick, fixing it in place with twine.

Keep the brick someplace where you’ll see it every day. If you have a personal shrine or memorial for our queer ancestors, that would be a perfect place for this inscribed object. Whenever a law is passed, a protest mustered, whenever you or your friends personally are impacted by hate, recite the names on the brick. Remember their stories. Then recite the words of the spell and invite those powerful, beautiful, wronged, and rage-filled martyrs to lend whatever strength they can to continue the fight.
