The state at a government level is not interested in prosecuting landowners in a meaningful way. The paltry fines are a box ticking exercise and the various state agencies tasked with policing the environment are hobbled by inadequate powers and under investment

It's a river flowing through its floodplain. It's supposed to flood on occasion. The 'cleaning' is to promote land drainage for farmers and the taxpayer foots the bill. We have opportunistic politicians making careers out of lobbying to destroy rivers and their habitats for the agricultural sector.

To the east is a place marked on the map as An Choill Mar- the Great Woods. Now its a conifer plantation. What efforts are being made to reinstate the natural land cover?

Thoe boulders on the left bank in the photo are placed and stacked. Material that size wouldn't come from the banks in that order and it certainly wasn't transported from upstream and deposited in that order. It's likely there to protect the crossing indicated by the placed slabs in the channel

At odds with you photo that shows commercial coniferous forestry in the background and bank reinforcement in the foreground, presumably to stop or constrain river processes
