I appreciated you writing it and keeping the rest of us apprised of the goings on!

It's kinda at an unfair advantage because it has the top layer of shadowing on it. But the big question is how it will look with the rest of the portrait. Revisions may be necessary depending on how that goes. 😅

Those saturated colors are just yummy!

To me, this reads as a really gorgeous and interesting color exercise.

Maybe 6ish? A few are in a gestational stage. Three are massive (probably small quilts for most people, large for me) but I have no room. 😅 Two are close to a finish (so I've skipped off to greener pastures), three in the patterning stage. Two with fabric on background. Pay no mind to the math here.

I've done a batting-free wall quilt that I hand embroidered. It feels like I may have used interfacing to stiffen it. Another suggestion I've seen is to use felt instead of batting to minimize loft. You could create a few testers to see what you like best. I agree canvas stretchers would be ideal.

This is a quandry I know well. Keeping the crisp lines of geometric shapes is why I leave the paper in my paper piecing projects and frame them rather than quilt them. What kind of batting have you considered?

Thanks! Portraits are my specialty right now but this technique and approach is new to me so I'm dealing with the fear of creating a critter spawned from the uncanny valley. I suppose if that happens I can put a jaunty hat on it.

Your use of value to create dimension is really exceptional--love this!
