Argaty was only the second authorised beaver translocation site in Scotland, following the official trial at Knapdale.

Beaver Trust supported the translocation, helping to bring beavers back to their working livestock farm.

If ponds freeze, beavers can be restricted beneath the ice. They swim familiar routes from the lodge to their food stores, and maintain access holes by pushing down on thin ice, or pushing up and gnawing on thick ice.
