Come on. Laos is a poor third world country with questionable law & order. The Australian Government has no ability to obtain justice for these or any other tourist. UK govt has historic links to that region hence the channel of information - thats all. If you want Australia always stay home.

Speading cuts for things that dont impact them

If some could follow the trial, they all could. People whinge about a nanny state but want their hand held. Personal responsibility seems to be a thing of the past.

My point was that education isn't as expensive as suggested rather it is the choice of private education (for whatever reason) that makes the numbers suggest it is expensive. Do people have to pay for a private educ = no, its a choice. (Ie not an issue of rights/wrongs of private vs public educ)

If most Australians decided to buy a Rolls Royce as a family car it would become the most expensive place to own a car. Its a silly argument. Its not the most expensive place, rather parents choose to spend more money. Choice vs. necessity are different issues.

Politicians never learn. Capital and the rich are mobile.

About time one of these so called leaders stood up. Carney hit many nails on their heads in his great speech. It's unfathomable that the EU wants to negotiate with trump over Greenland. No need when NO is the only answer. Talk about negotiation makes the bullies notion credible.

Thank you for saying that. From an external observer the US currently looks like a dictatorship not a democracy.

Always interesting how things come back for you. Karma is like that.

There is a region called Palestine & Israel was in it. Never been a country. Like other peoples, except Israelis, in this region they are Arabs distinguished by the sect of Islam they follow. It's akin to setting up a long term refugee settlement then calling it a country. Weird.

Corruption by those in power (govt & business) does that....in many countries. No one notices until the people really express their disenchantment.
September 2, 2025 at 12:08 AM
That's what I am seeing. US consumers will end up paying.
September 1, 2025 at 11:59 PM
Which totally ignores the responses of countries being hit with tariffs. They turn away from the US reorganise trade which reducf goods to the US. Less supply, same demand prices rise. Americans forget that others have choices eg Canadians making lots of them.

Likely. My only point is that they are not enviro impact free. It's a fools paradise to think that human needs & wants come without cost. I do wonder what we could achieve by limiting consumption (power/everything else) & better utilising what we have. Human greed & stupididty appears limitless.

If the LNP ever wants to govern again, they should stop looking at their own navels and go out and ask the electorate. Their current environmental policies make them perpetual losers. As a group they have little ability to read the mood of the room. The certainty of closed minds.

So called renewable don't cause damage? Obviously never seen a copper, lithium mine etc, extraction or processing plant for all the materials used to create these things. Kid yourself if you like but its all death by degrees (excuse the puns).

Is this a rerun of the great expansion of railways across the US. We know how that worked out.

Only occasionally in this case. Left wing nedia has been after the Australian conglomerate called Westfarmers for years. Kmart is one if it's many businesses. Wesfarmers employs 120,000+, supports a range of charities, conservation efforts etc but is apparently too profitable for some.

How quickly we lose sight of what's important. The discussion should be on what is the best health decision. I have yet to see any study that suggests obesity is a healthy state as it creates a host of health issues. Fat or thin well being is necessary consideration.
