Reading historical fiction as a child, in the veins of Dear American, American Girl, Number The Stars, is what sparked my interest in learning history. Dare I say it made me empathetic to other people’s struggles?
I feel like we need more historical fiction. I understand folks don’t want to read actual history books & it’s getting harder to find reliable resources on the Internet. I worry our history is getting lost in all the noise, & understanding (and not repeating) history is key to our evolution.

thinking about the part in watership down where some rabbits worship a hunter because he feeds them sometimes and the rabbits become domesticated, apathetic and cynical and refuse to talk about those killed by the hunter and become violent when questioned about it
