Both of them make improvements on their original designs in various ways and I like what they each achieve. That said, if I had to choose between them I'd go with Magmatron and it's not even close.

I had some issues with the pacing and sub plots, but the way it subverted expectations along with some vivid imagery made it one of my favorites of the saga.
