Glass play, cutting a fused panel to bits. This set was refired scrap from other projects. I love to see how the colors bleed and blend. We’ll see if they survive the final firing…

Bead play for a FB show Wed-Thu this week. If you haven't run far afield from that app I'd be happy to send a link to the group :^) I'm slowly figuring out an offline existence too with in person gigs, possibly setting up the wee trailer for glass and beads. Wish me luck. Message if you'd like info!

The beads go on, it feels like an odd way to support myself at this moment in time but here we are.

My daily call to representative, this time I included my governors office...

I am increasingly concerned by the fast moving crisis in DC with Elon Musk and his team taking over and compromising technology, data, and critical governmental infrastructure.

Raskin: "Elon Musk, you may have illegally seized power over the financial payments systems of the Treasury, but you don't control the money of the American people. The US Congress does that under Article 1 of the Constitution ... we don't have a fourth branch of government called 'Elon Musk'"

Is making beads while democracy dies akin to playing the fiddle while Rome burns? I can’t imagine that anyone wanted this hostile takeover no matter who you voted for. I’m doubling up calls to reps asking that they find republicans who don’t choose to junk our democracy and constitution. 5calls.org

I am finding it increasingly difficult to function as I watch the takeover of our democratic (soon to be formerly democratic) government. I am going to add posts here on my profile to track. Maybe also beads photos as they support us but my glass work feels so frivolous given the current crisis.

Several conversations today w people in the key executive departments. And while the particulars are hard to pin down my impression is that the Musk take over stuff is considerably worse than is being presented in the press. By this I don’t necessarily things they *done* yet but the level of …

Silver has been out to play, my FB Bead Life group show kicks off at noon today. Still pondering alternate venues.

Sending love to all my CA connections, we hope you are safe will stay safe. What a devastating thing to watch, as the winds blow here on the east coast you are on my mind every minute.

That’s a nice fit :^) the seats are Frankenstein’d 2” memory foam scrap with a cotton batting wrap to hold together. Nice and comfy! The backs are a thinner single sheet of 1” upholstery foam, covers remove for wash. My husband is the woodworker. Fun to see the little Scotty coming together.

I seem to be reverting to the 60s, making seat cushions for the 1961 Scotty trailer using the 1965 Viking sewing machine. Even the fabric found in my stash fits the theme, maybe from Mom’s sewing cabinet. Back to beadmaking tomorrow but today this creative flashback calmed the brain in a good way.

An overview of my recent glass work. Fused and flame formed components that I sell to jewelry artists and collectors mostly through FB groups (one personal and one I admin). It's great but I worry about the toxicity of social media, meta is on my mind, diversifying sales is my current conundrum.

I mostly play at the torch making beads but sporadically fuse glass too. I really love the most recent batch of small fused earring pairs. Subtle flashes of dichroic, nicely paired (sisters rather than twins). I might be in earring mode this week working up the rest of the series. Not a bad life...

Sometimes I make things other than beads :^) my Mom’s cheesecake recipe covered in berries for a family gathering 🩷 I’m contemplating a no-new-buys-year (or four) looking instead for used (love finding good used) or handmade (love supporting artists and makers), maybe small business sustainable too.

Beads…
November 21, 2024 at 7:37 PM
Today is a work (if I can call it work) day cleaning beads made last night at the torch. I forget how much I can lose myself in the flame when working late night. It calms the soul… now I need to be able to relax daytime brain, maybe a new audiobook.

First post hmmm… whispering into the void? I’m currently a glass beadmaker pondering new directions while enjoying the current path.

Turning 60 has me refocusing life goals: 1) see my kids happy and settled; 2) be more engaged in the direction of my town, county, state, country, world. Yikes right?
