Once the mold was complete, I started on stripping out the hull. This process involved cutting thing strips of foam core material and attaching them to the mold stations. The foam core is flexible and extremely lightweight, making this relatively easy, if a bit tedious.

The next step in the process is to transfer the design from paper plans to full sized wood cutouts (called “lofting”), and secure them to the strongback. There is a lot of detailed work here. Building this mold true is crucially important. Imperfections add significant downstream labor #boatbuilding

Building a boat from nothing but a set of plans starts with a truckload of lumber to build a strongback and a mold for the hull. I purchased plans from a well-known skiff designer and got to work. This was January of 2023. #boatbuilding #DIY #skiffs #boats #fishing #conchfish16

Hi! I’m new to bluesky. I’m an amateur boatbuilder/chronic DIY’er and recently finished my first skiff. It’s a project I’m extremely proud of and I will periodically share stuff about the build here! It’s 16’4” long and took 2 years to build, and I think it’s beautiful.
