I too find it sad, but refuse - as a lover of movies - to submit to "downward spiral" and attend films like One Battle After Another (on both yours and my fave list of the year) in an actual theater. The film - especially the car chase scene- is best experienced communally, with Dolby Atmos sound.

Yes, I think Carol is a fully-realized character, with flaws which are exacerbated by the trauma of losing her partner to a hive-mind rapture. She is smart and intrepid, but also naive, & lacks emotional maturity. Yes, she is deeply, internally, *angry*.
