And that information became available nearly instantly. Anyone who did not immediately buy it would have been aware of the problems by the end of launch day. Straight up, video game makers genuinely have so few ways to manipulate the market. Quality, FOMO, and/or gambling. That's all they've got.

I don't see how modern video games exist in anything but a free market? Consumers (who don't pre-order) have access to near-perfect information on the product, and have millions of other alternatives to purchase instead. And there is no external force compelling someone to buy a video game.

Video games are not hospitals or schools or any other kind of truly essential product or service. They are the exact kind of luxury product that should be left entirely up to the free market to determine their sale price.
