Really thrilled to return here with lovely news that I’ve been shortlisted for the World of Books Sustainable Story Awards (non-fiction) for my new work RUST: A Personal Story of Iron. Blending memoir, eco-feminism, and geology, RUST traces iron’s imprint on body, family, and landscape.

When people say to me ‘how can you cope with the dark winters in Orkney?’ — this is how. Light is alchemical here, the sea and sky swallowing it all 🩶💛

A cold salt wind blows across the apothecary garden. Soon, I will be turning to the cupboard for my brews but today, a few gifts. Today’s potion is a simple blend of calendula, spearmint, chamomile, cardamom pods and star anise. Uplifting, protective and soothing. Just right for these times 🧡🌸
