What's Lacking in the 35mm Camera

The second reason for the popularity of the bigger size camera is a revolt against the convenience of the 35 mm camera. As a result of improvements in the 35 mm camera, photography has become more accurate and speedier.

On the other hand, the most basic feeling of taking worthy pictures has been weakened. Depending on the purpose, it is necessary to take plenty of time to create an outstandina picture. The feeling of true creation can really be enjoyed when the shutter release button is pressed after such preparations. The 35mm cameras today, however, are too simple to satisfy such emotional needs.

"using math we will prove that the 6x6, which we make, is far superior to 35mm but that 6x9, which we do not make, is not such a big deal"

I don't know which of these is better. The tautilogical answer that people like bigger negatives because they're bigger negatives, or saying with a straight-face that the reason people want medium format is simply "soul-satisfying photography"
Big Format Produces High-Quality Photographs
There is greater interest recently in the so-called "bigger size cameras" producing pictures of 6X 6 to 6X9 format. There are various reasons for this, depending on the individual, but they are generally the following two: (1) The large format, and (2) soul-satisfying photography.

LOL. "Here's the 80mm, a true standard for the format done the way people do it, and here's the 105mm which is actually the standard because the boss said 'well that's how we've always done it'"
Pages from a Mamiya brochure describing the 80mm as a "standard among standard lenses" and talking about the convention of a focal length equal to the diagonal of the format, and then a 105mm as the "standard lens created by Mamiya policy" with a justification that comes down to just saying they've always done that so it is.

I wanna go back in time and buy this poor copywriter a drink

OK, I was just skimming this Mamiya C330 and C220 brochure to refresh myself on what was different between those models, but, I'm going to have to go back and actually read it because I keep seeing some of the most insane try-hard marketing spins in it I've encountered

So if I do a bit about enjoying posting 1-bit photos does that make me a 2-bit loser?

Joke's on it, they're both hobbyist cameras now!

The Poco's a 4x5. The Hawkeye was my wife's family's, the exterior was in great shape but it had been repaired at some point with cardboard bellows that had completely rotted through. I got lucky and found some actual NOS leather bellows for it and replaced them to put it back in use.

‘If it folds it’s a folder’ I believe, but, even if you want to define it with bellows all the folding Retinas including the last generation designs still have them yeah? The sales brochure for the IIIc still shows the cloth bellows under the new rigid cover.
A Retina IIIc technical cut-away illustration showing the pleats of bellows behind a solid metal cover. A different view from the same brochure showing bellows inside the camera.

MFD on the C33 with the 80mm is pretty groovy

Third try today at the Cronos boss. Made it a little bit further still. Still not far enough. More tomorrow, I'll get there.

The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine is an echo chamber. Good luck finding nuanced debates about hot button issues on that touch screen. It’s just soda names and flavored syrups

The good news is the prices seem much more reasonable after getting used to Leica ones.

The bad news is the prices still aren't, actually, reasonable.

Long-term followers know I considered myself a bad photo student and I didn't really "get" the technical fundamentals until years after school and I didn't "really" _get_ the fundamentals until about seven years ago and for a long, long time "and taking photos this good on film" was a lofty goal.

Look man I just don't know how safe it is to sit on a wooden bench labeled "Land of Oz" glowing in a set-up like this. Seems like a trap to me.
