I am standing to be Deputy Leader because I believe this Labour Government urgently needs to go back to the guiding values of our party and movement, and deliver an ambitious programme of popular, progressive policies.

Horrible to hear news of the arson attack on a mosque in Peacehaven over the weekend - sadly not the first time it had been targeted.

We must unite against hatred, terror and racism in all their forms.

Nobody should fear violence at their place of worship.

People are turning out in numbers week after week to protest Britain's complicity in the Gaza genocide.

No amount of anti-protest laws will change this.

Instead of trying to silence protesters, the government should be taking action to try and stop the genocide.

Ministers appear to be considering further welfare cuts that could deprive hundreds of thousands of disabled people of the support they rely on.

They should remember how their last attempt to balance the books in this way went.

The police are effectively saying they don't have resources to protect us from actual terrorists because they have to go and arrest pensioners holding placards.

We need to be clear where the blame for this situation lies.

Worrying reports that British activists detained for trying to deliver aid to Gaza are being transferred to one of Israel's most notorious torture prisons.

Our government must speak out for the safety of these humanitarians and make it clear that no harm must come to them.

Last night, Israel intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla, illegally seizing ships and those onboard.

I've written to the Foreign Secretary, urging the government to condemn this attack and speak up for the safety and immediate release of the 13 British citizens detained.
A letter to the Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper MP on Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP's Parliamentary letterhead. It expresses "grave concern for the safety of British citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla". It highlights the illegal seizure of British-flagged ships and British citizens, calling on the government to "clearly condemn this attack on British citizens by the Israeli military and take every action to have our citizens returned to the UK swiftly and safely."

The PPE Medpro case highlights the corruption of Covid procurement.

I am glad the government will work to recover funds.

We must now hold Tory ministers accountable for their role: giving public money to Tory donors with no track record of delivery.

Calling for migrants to be shot. Dismissing rape complaints. Bragging about using excessive force.

The Met remains institutionally racist, sexist & unaccountable.

We need a police force that respects the communities it serves & works to keep us all safe.

Israel has illegally intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters, abducting British citizens and seizing ships sailing under British flags.

The government must condemn this attack on humanitarians, speak up for their safety and demand their immediate release.

Today marks the history of Black History Month.

This year, racism is on the rise and diversity, equity and inclusion policies are under attack.

But Black History is British History.

And there is so much more for all of us to learn. This month and every month.

The government needs an urgent change of direction.

This is not just a question of personnel, it's a question of policy.

Change can begin with an end to the Two Child Benefit Cap.

The government needs to change tack. Our economy needs investment for growth.

Good to hear the PM calling out the racism of the far right and Reform's mass deportation proposals in today's Conference speech.

Patriotism is not about deporting our friends, colleagues and neighbours, it's about improving life for everyone that lives here.

The Global Sumud Flotilla is heading into the final stages of its mission to break Israel’s blockade.

Other governments have sent ships to escort the flotilla.

Ours has not even spoken up for the safety of participants, including 13 British citizens & at least 3 British ships.

Trump’s proposed carve-up of Gaza is not a basis for lasting peace, let alone justice; it is a basis for colonial rule, permanent occupation and continued violence against Palestinians.

The Palestinian people must decide Gaza's future; not Netanyahu, Trump or Blair.

We are losing more voters to the Greens and Lib Dems than to Reform.

We need to stop trying to out-Reform Reform, start listening to members, and pursue a more progressive policy agenda.

That can start with ending the Two Child Benefit Cap.

On Thursday evening, I met with residents of Bellevue Mansions and Rhodesia Park to hear their views on the proposed demolitions and redevelopment.

I will be raising their concerns with the developer and stressing that residents must be properly consulted.

Good to visit Healthy Living Platform this week to hear more about their work delivering surplus food and other basics to local households in need.

I'm grateful to the hard-working volunteers who have stepped up to support our community and plug the gaps left by austerity.

This week, I coordinated a cross-party call for the Foreign Secretary to protect the Global Sumud Flotilla—the third time I have raised this with the government.

Their continued inaction suggests Israel's interests matter more than the safety of British citizens.

Plans to purchase new nuclear-capable fighter jets would breach international law.

Rearmament makes the world a more dangerous place, not less.

The announcement of digital ID cards illustrates how policies designed to target migrants can rebound and impact the rest of us.

There will be justifiable opposition to this from across the political spectrum.

It makes it look like the government is running out of ideas.

No surprise to hear that the government’s taskforce will conclude that ending the Two Child Benefti Cap is the single most effective measure to reduce child poverty.

The government must heed this advice and scrap it in the Autumn Budget without further delay.
