You have a good point but consider how destructive this would be to the Saturday morning cartoon industry

Ostensibly, depending on who you ask, it was either a Roman Salute (the one the Nazis adopted as their own) or a gesture meaning "my heart goes out to you" (what he said after making the gesture), done in the most forceful way you can imagine that gesture. Important to note that it cannot be both

I could be mistaken, but what I remember hearing is that the parts of the TCJA set to expire were the cuts for the middle class, and the cuts for the highest incomes were made permanent.

Couldn't inelastic supply produce the same distribution?

I.e. high demand induces the construction of more lanes, but the lanes aren't enough to completely mitigate the demand.

More lanes would cause less traffic but the correlation would still be positive

The irony is this is in fact the profit motive in action.

They tried something! It didn't work! They could tell it didn't work because they lost money! As a result they are changing course!

I know right, what a waste! Like what are they burning it all for?? Why couldn't they just sell it to me?

That's true of every city in the world that isn't being bombed. It's especially true in cities like Austin, where rents are falling this year.

It has very little to do with geography. The correlation of low vacancies -> high rents -> high homelessness holds across the country
January 13, 2025 at 12:52 AM
Even before the fire LAs vacancy rate was one of the lowest in the country. It's no coincidence it has such a high homeless population.

You will not find a place in the country or time in LA history more affordable than present day LA but with fewer vacancies.
January 12, 2025 at 11:14 PM
There aren't enough houses for people to move into. People will be displaced. People will be homeless. This will be true regardless of who owns these rentals and how much they charge for rent.

It's not about short term vs long term, it's about individual vs collective. They can see where this leads for everyone, but the only option they can see for themselves is to make hay while the sun is still shining

So long as ~*~*someone else*~*~ is paying the consumers, it's fine if *they* don't pay their workers.

Remember, capitalists aren't central planners. They will fuck over each other and even the whole system for their own payday.

I appreciate that we're all in this together but it's simply untrue that we are all equally at risk from climate change. We need to start building for climate resistance YESTERDAY and moving out of flood plains, coastlines and wildfire zones is an important step.

Alright gonna steelman here best I can

Budget deficits increase money supply

++++Money supply > +economy =inflation

"Free up the economy" means cut regulations, unrelated to gov spending

++money = ++economy =no inflation

I ordered no contact delivery (or pickup) from GrubHub to minimize my face-to-face exposure with others.

I'm not sure how you expect that going to the grocery store (which I still did, often, wearing a mask) would have made any difference to COVID spread
January 6, 2025 at 10:23 PM
When I was a kid, Friday nights were the night we would get restaurant food. Mostly pizza and taco bell, or (when we were older) Thai. Everything else was home cooked

In 2020 I got GrubHub probably 3-4 times a week.

Following you and looking forward to this article, mostly because "jury duty has all the problems of the draft" is not very convincing to me.

Everything you've said in the first sentence is correct. But US taxpayers collectively have already paid 23 billion dollars!
December 31, 2024 at 10:47 PM
23 billion USD have been spent on the California High Speed Rail project. Note the green "ready to use" segment
