We sometimes overrate the media’s ability to stop a mass delusion event — ask me about the Great Clown Panic of 2016 or the somehow stupider ‘Alabama Students Are Having COVID Parties’ incident of 2020 — but this kind of framing can maybe contain the nonsense, if not knock it down.
