The funding bill will need 60 votes, meaning at least seven Senate Dems would need to vote for it. This is a make or break moment for whether enough of them will stand up or if we will see only symbolic opposition in the face of violence that the administration wishes to be seen as unaccountable.

Pitting ICE funding against anti-poverty programs is unacceptable.

Senate Democrats must oppose funding for ICE or else be complicit with the doubtless more shootings to come. They must request the DHS bill be broken off again or that massive cuts to ICE and fundamental reforms be included.

The House passed new DHS funding Friday with all but 7 Democrats opposed. It was a standalone bill but, due to House shenanigans, has now been packaged with several other key agencies like HHS and Transportation.

Senate Democrats may be reluctant to vote no on this funding package as a result
