Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.

Very random and void-worthy thought, but I absolutely adore it when you can hear a vocalist smile when singing. The audible joy of expression & creativity just always gets me - (towards the end of this song, you can hear (and see), Elis Regina's big smile 🫶

Reading about the inevitable socio-political catastrophe that is climate change while being blasted with royalty free airport X-mas music and heading to a systemic risk conference is truly a liminal experience.

Sometimes, when my work has me read climate science, I get a quite powerless feeling of anger and capitulation. Last time I had that feeling, I was at least able to turn it into something to share with others, which is strangely comforting. So here goes, my little poem of despair:
