I did find the rates of particular penalties (slashing, roughing, elbowing, boarding) went up in the time remaining in a period after a fighting major. It was in a THN piece about whether fighting was, among other things, a deterrent to more violence.

I do appreciate their unwitting actions that precipitate more Emperor-has-no-clothes moments. Kinda like Vance saying they aren't going to let the most recent election change their behavior. Prepare the petard for the foisting, by all means.
