Daredevil was quite good IMO
Thunderbolts was very eh, even if the underlying message is good and the actors gave it their all (just a muddled script and unusual direction IMO)
FF was a solid B- to B. We needed more runway to understand these characters.

It occurs to me that he made probably the two best faithful adaptations of King’s work in Stand By Me and Misery. Not coincidentally, neither of them is supernatural horror. It’s all about… people. Messy, complex, flawed people.

Adapting King is HARD. Reiner might’ve done it better and more true to the source material than anyone else… TWICE!

His direction in AFGM is borderline immaculate. A ridiculously talented cast and an all-timer script, to be sure, but every shot is framed perfectly. Every musical cue is timed perfectly. You can see his hand just subtly making everything… just so. Craftsman.

Terrible, awful news. In all my favorite projects of his, you can just sense his feel for the humanity (or lack thereof, cough cough Kiefer) of all his characters. A brilliant, gifted craftsman, and one who had the guts to stand up for what he believed was right. May his memory be a blessing.
