Ever since we had kids I've been in constant awe of single parents. I know everyone just does whatever they need to and whatever they can but it's just bewildering how!
I know it's hard for you. That really sucks. I hope you're still able to find the joys in it through all the difficulties tho.

We have exactly one person, my MIL - she's stressful and awkward and has questionable views and we don't get on great but having her near enough to be able to help when we need it is invaluable. We've got a few friends with zero support network and don't understand how they do it.

Oh for sure. Fortunately the workload on the volunteer caseworkers isn't too bad. It got a bit full on before Xmas with a big influx of layoffs but generally pretty chill

Are you in the discord? It's not a huge amount of work tbh and as it's a volunteer thing, ppl just kinda put their hands up to take on stuff as it comes in. There's some training scheduled for it soon actually. Feel free to DM me anytime

Absolutely. And you don't have to be alone in this. Unions can help even if it isn't legal stuff. You never know when you might run into an issue related to your work, even if your employer or contractee is a friend.

Was literally saying this to a HR person this morning! And that one thing unions can help such ppl with is working together to make sure they don't inadvertently break the law, or at the very least help them to realise how they treat employees will affect their output!

Even just being there as someone for ppl to lean on, share their issues, or gentle advice without even having to delve into the rabbit hole of employment law, feels infinitely more productive than anything before.
If I had the time/energy, I would genuinely consider retraining in employment law!

I don't post too often about it all because of NDAs and privacy sensitivities but also, this shit is exhausting y'all!
No regrets in my choices there tho. As much as it's stressful handling cases, it's also rewarding to feel actually useful to ppl who need our help/support.
