Cognitive scientist. Problem solving, representational change, analogies, case studies, qualitative methods
Similarly, O. Wiener discussed this in '68 as an issue for scientific progress: "... had Copernicus had a computer at his disposal with which to multiply and shift the by then conspicuous Ptolemaic circles, we would probably have a modern Ptolemaic worldview and be tackling spaceflight nonetheless."

I worry that that's a general pattern. While _in_principle_ technologies may be used in supportive, creative, progressive ways, their affordances and current systems' incentives almost inevitably lead to them being employed in ways that impede change. Weizenbaum discussed this in '85: t1p.de/ooy5n

I'd say they're both important and required. Coming from a country with one of the least amounts of regulation in Europe (tobaccocontrolscale.org/results-2021/), I can tell you that peer pressure alone sadly isn't enough. Visiting neighbouring countries always feels like a relief, smoke-wise

Über solche "Lösungen" hat Weizenbaum 1985 schon gesprochen (web.archive.org/web/20211002...)

Only got the old pre-cognitive green of the CPC464 still going, but even that got way more expensive in the wake of it

A friend of ours found in Iran found these three as newborns in a box on the street corner and took them in. A mere ~9 months later, here they are, blissfully unaware of what's going on...

I always liked the way Oswald Wiener made this point in 1968: "... if Copernicus would have had a computer at his disposal with which to multiply and shift the by then conspicuous Ptolemaic circles, we would probably have a modern Ptolemaic worldview and would nonetheless be tackling spaceflight."

Oh, I know this story! The year is nineteen-aught-six. The president is the divine Miss Sarah Bernhard and all over America people were doing a dance called "the funky Grandpa"!
