And wouldn’t chain stores locking up their products lead to a surge in shoplifting in stores that don’t lock their products up? I haven’t seen any reporting on this either. And if there’s one thing local media loves reporting on it is the plight of the Bay Area small business owner

I’m sure some shoplifters deliberately choose to shoplift from chains over local stores because they know chains can more easily take the hit, but I don’t think it’s safe to assume that all shoplifters take this into consideration.

It’s almost like these big corporations are playing the victim under false pretenses :)
