I saw that it’s not absolutely necessary to start with that book, and since I haven’t really felt drawn to it yet, I’ve decided to begin with this one. They lay out the worldbuilding really succinctly tho right from the start so I don’t think it matters.

My theory is that the church/corp is funneling serious $$ into media campaigns. It used to be more obvious, but now it’s subtler. Their reach rly showed when the Mormon MomTok kicked off the Stanley craze, and now they’ve figured out how to package and push without making it feel overtly religious
