In a previous lecture we talked about how there was a conspiracy that former president Barack Obama was not born the U.S. and that people who disliked Obama truly believed that. I think this is a great example of how strong emotions can cause people to believe a conspiracy is real. #UWJ201 #313

I think an example of a boomerang effect is political ads. The negative or aggressive messaging in these ads tend to backfire and reinforces existing biases instead of persuading them to switch sides. #UWJ201 #313

I believe we come across more misinformation. I'd like to think that most people have good intentions and are not purposely spreading incorrect information but are instead spreading that incorrect information because they believe it is the truth. #UWJ201 #313

I think that deepfake technology should be regulated due to it's ability to create realistic disinformation. I think the government should regulate it, as they can pass laws to penalize companies/people that use it. #UWJ201 #313

I think after learning about the reason to act now method made me realize I fall for those type of ads. I now know to view those as an ad strategy, and not be as inclined to make a purchase thinking I will lose the chance if I don't.

I also thought the video that was shown today of the human-like avatar was off-putting. I think as technology get's more advanced it will be hard to distinguish between human and AI and won't be as off putting, although that can also be a concern.

I think for me when I recognize a celebrity in an ad it grabs my attention the most, especially when more than one celebrity makes a feature, such as Lay's ads with various athletes. #UWj201 #313

The Menendez brothers and their recent rise to popularity over the fall is what comes to mind. For me, at least, they appeared to be in the headlines on social media and the news everywhere I looked. #UWj201 #313
