Most important is to be honest with yourself. Write it down even if it means you don’t reach your goal that day. Having an understanding of your eating habits is so much more important than hitting the goal every day. The development comes over time.

Yes, doing the same for a few weeks now. Before I often ate a complete pack of sweets or cookies. Now I am eating just a few with a lot more joy.

Loosing a bit of weight that way feels easy without a feeling of giving up anything.

Besides depending on the price, it depends on your personal situation and plans for the future. When you plan to stay where you're located at, then buying might be fine. If you want to keep flexibility, then renting seems a better fit.
