Is he even doing that though? So much literature around people management is about giving honest feedback. If your aim is to liked, fine, but you are doing your employees a disservice by not telling them they are underperforming. Honest and actionable feedback shows you care.

It will probably be more like a sliding window though, right? At some point your increase in attacking output gives diminishing returns as your defence suffers. So there is an upper bound there of sorts. Assuming teams are at a somewhat equal level, within a league level or two
