What a card for New Year’s Eve! I got a call at 1:00 AM that my mother’s in the hospital after falling and has broken her hip. Am optimistic that she will recover, but change indeed.

I have a close relative from Tokyo so visit there often. Last trip I returned to the U.S. and as usual caught light rail home. Totally different atmosphere, loud music, off guy yelling threats…Japanese trains can be super crowded but I appreciate the deference to other riders.
