This is our pet lizard, Doug. He is a Carolina anole (Anolis carolinensis). These lizards are very common here and often find their way into our house. I catch them and release them outside when that happens. Doug, however, has evaded capture for weeks.

I love everything about this gorgeous book. It’s a story about the power of family and magic. The family is dysfunctional and loud. The magic is earthy and beautiful. And in the end, these two things come together to set right that which was broken in the past. Highly recommend.
