Visa, quotas, financial requirements. Forced to leave but almost nowhere to go while being threatened with imprisonment and likely death. "Illegal" travels, sunken ships, bribing, and bureaucratic and political labyrinths. Transit visas but no right to settle and work. #history

Additionally, the book is very well researched and balances personal accounts with the global situation. Hopefully the book will be translated into English so that it reaches a broader audience. A contribution to reinforce our memory of the events of recent history.

As I read the book, I felt the helplessness of people who were expelled from their homes and made second-class "citizens" with second-class passports. The author thoroughly expresses the dead ends the expelled people struggled through.

These are the words and phrases that went through my mind while reading and are still echoing after finishing the book. The book also made me realise that basically no country, other than a few, welcomed the exiled people, as if nothing was happening.
