Now, in addition to demonizing librarians and firing their staff, the Trump administration can also brag of having helped curb the internationalism of America’s library system—an act which is pretty on brand for them.

“Interlibrary loans that libraries have been able to do for a really long time, even back in the early 1900s,” Relevo said. “If we can’t do that anymore we’re limiting what our users can access, they’re only limited to what we have in our collection, then ultimately could hinder academic progress.”

Some who use AusPost [Australia’s postal service] to post internationally have been more impacted and I’ve seen many libraries put a halt on borrowing to or from the US at all.”

“The tariffs have impacted interlibrary loans in various ways for different libraries,” Heather Evans, a librarian at RMIT University in Australia…[said] in an email. “It has largely depended on their different procedures as to how much they have been affected.

The study’s results suggest that paying attention to what you eat, reading labels, and making simple food swaps is more important than ever, Davy also suggests that people cook meals as much as possible at home and choose water over sugary beverages.

By the end of the study period, they found a 17% increase in cognitive issues among people who consumed at least one serving of ultra-processed meat a day. And for each serving of soda consumed, there was a 6% increase in cognitive impairment.

Consuming processed meats & sugary beverages, vs other ultra-processed foods, is linked to poor memory & cognitive issues. Ultra-processed foods that contain a slew of additives, preservatives, & artificial ingredients, already are known to be harmful to human health in a variety of ways.

83% of people trust their doctor or health-care provider to provide reliable information about vaccines. “People are still listening to their clinicians,” says Peter Chin-Hong, an infectious-disease physician/UCSF. “And clinicians get their guidance from their professional organizations.”

COVID-19 vaccine guidance was issued in September by two alliances, one comprising states on the West Coast and Hawaii, the other a group of Northeastern states. But, ultimately, advice from doctors remains the most trusted source of information about vaccines in the United States.

But the conclusions of both teams aligned in supporting the safety of the shots for that age group. The societies’ decisions are already proving influential. A number of states have banded together to issue their own vaccine recommendations, which they based on guidance from the AAP, ACOG and AAFP.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) — which in August recommended that all children aged from 6 to 23 months old who do not have contraindications be vaccinated against COVID-19 — was already performing its own vaccine data review when the VIP started this process.

The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) also worked with the VIP before recommending, in September, COVID-19 jabs for all adults and all children aged from 6 months to 2 years.

In August, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released updated guidelines that continued to recommend COVID-19 vaccines for pregnant people. The guidance was based, in part, on the VIP’s review, which found no safety concerns for COVID-19 vaccines in this group.

The work also revealed that immunocompromised adults over the age of 60 had an increased, although still low, risk of Guillain–Barré syndrome — an autoimmune disorder that can cause paralysis — after an RSV vaccine.
bettycjung.bsky.social
The analysis found, for example, that pregnant people who received COVID-19, RSV or flu vaccines generally had similar or lower risks of problems such as miscarriage and congenital anomalies compared with those who did not receive the jabs.

Normally, the ACIP itself would do that review in collaboration with representatives of medical societies, but these specialists have been excluded from the panel’s working groups.
bettycjung.bsky.social
The group’s review was extensive, encompassing all the data that have been generated on the three vaccines since the ACIP performed a similar review last year, says Michael Osterholm, an epidemiologist and the director of CIDRAP.

“Secretary Kennedy is restoring public trust by reconstituting ACIP with highly credentialed doctors, scientists, and public health experts committed to evidence-based medicine, gold standard science, and common sense,” the statement says.

Sounds good, but it's BS. Most on the panel are anti-vax.

but the committee’s initial decisions raise doubts about its credibility, those behind the VIP say. A spokesperson for the US Department of Health and Human Services, which Kennedy heads, stood by the reconstituted panel, stating that the group reflects a “diversity of viewpoints”. (anti-vax)
bettycjung.bsky.social
It also stopped short of recommending COVID-19 vaccines, instead advising that people make their own decision about whether to get vaccinated — a reversal of previous policy. The panel has yet to advise on vaccines against influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV),

In June, US health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr, a long-time anti-vaccine activist, fired the entire panel; he has since hand-picked 12 new members.
Last month, the ACIP recommended putting restrictions on the use of a childhood vaccine against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV).
bettycjung.bsky.social
“I really believe in the importance of having an independent, unbiased group of people look at the data and present the data publicly.” VIP initiative’s review follows changes to US Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which issues influential vaccine recs for the US population.
