The US never really had commercially viable regional leagues in the first place in so many sports, so it would be a new system. College sports is actually ditching a bunch of it's regionalism rn to chase TV revenue lmao

This is sort of happening with the revenue sharing in the House settlement and the subsequent roster limits that conferences are adopting, there is just no room left for non-scholarship players in a bunch of sports at the D1 level at a ton of schools
