We honour the six Muslim Canadians killed and the 19 injured in the 2017 attack at the Centre culturel islamique de Québec in Sainte-Foy. Dehumanization leads to violence, and we all have a role to play in addressing Islamophobia and hate and ensuring everyone can live and worship safely.

2025 was a year of steady work; in Parliament, in committee, and in conversation with people in Beaches–East York and across the country. Grateful to everyone who engaged, shared their experiences, and held us to a higher standard. Onward to 2026.

We discussed the UK’s Online Safety Act, the need for digital sovereignty and restructuring the ad tech stack, protecting kids online, and how influencers now dominate political information.

What will it take to get us there?

While the UK, EU, and Australia have moved forward with meaningful reforms, Canada keeps introducing bills that die on the order paper.

Today marks 10 years since the TRCs final report on residential schools. We’ve seen significant albeit imperfect progress since and there’s much more for us to do together.

As our PM put it: “Cdns stand in sorrow with the people of Australia and Jewish people everywhere following today’s horrific antisemitic terror attack at a Hanukkah event on Bondi Beach in Sydney…we stand together in our determination never to bow to terrorism, violence, hatred, or intimidation.”

Like many Canadians, I grew up listening to @raffic.bsky.social. So it was unreal to have the inspiring troubadour join me for this #uncommonspod.

We discuss his music, his advocacy for peace and the planet, and the importance of his child honouring philosophy.

A powerful voice for Indigenous rights and education in Canada. With her own background one of both Anishinaabe and Polish descent, @tanyatalaga.bsky.social writes: “from the legacies of these dual branches of genocide, one on Turtle Island and one far off in Eastern Europe - comes my knowing.”
