The Boardgame Mechanics are pretty okay!

We are a board game review channel that does a topical podcast (whenever we can) and tons of video previews and reviews on YouTube and Rumble.
Played some games tonight after dinner. Kariba and Ra and Write from the great Dr. Knizia. Via Magica (not pictured), Maglev Metro, and Tokaido refresher.

RA and Write is turning into one of my favorite blank and write games of all time. So good.

Jason and Katie will be going live tonight to talk about spooky games that we enjoy…and maybe some other things.

Here is a sneak peak at some other stuff we will chat about.

This past weekend a friend gave us a copy of Alea Iacta Est (because it has a toilet).

I already have Order of the Guilded Compass so my question, to those of you that have played both, which one of these do you like better?

Also, if you could only keep one which one would you keep?

Had a great day of gaming yesterday with friends at the annual Nerd-a-Palooza. Played a ton of games even though I left a bit earlier than I was planning too. Can’t wait to do this again next year!! Just a few of the games played.

Finally got to play some games! It has been a minute. Today I got to play Hot Lead (2x), Magical Athlete (2x), Catherine: The Cities of the Tsarina, and Fairy.

Some Magical Athlete and The McDonald’s Game tonight. Magical Athlete is a ton of fun. I can’t wait to play it with a full player count. The racer powers are so fun.

Played two games of Dream Phone tonight. Katie won the first game and Rory won the second game. These old kids games are a ton of fun and need to get the Restoration Games treatment.

Learned Catherine: The Cities of the Tsarina tonight. This has some clever card play ideas and packs a lot of punch in just twelve turns. This is a good one. Stay tuned to a video soon.

If you are a fan of kids games you don’t want to miss Rory’s top 10 games of all time that we will be dropping tomorrow.

She has been playing a lot of games with her dad and wanted to talk about them. Stay tuned…

Or head over to our Rumble channel and you can watch it early (if you can’t wait).

Learned Tobago today. This is an interesting reverse deduction game where players are playing cards to pinpoint one of the four different treasures around the island. This game is so good and I am sad that I have missed out on playing this until now.

I didn’t realize that I had played Orleans this many times. It is a fantastic game.

Just received A Place for All My Books today. This is a kickstarter from Smirk&Dagger that I backed because Katie Sandy-Smith loved the theme. Did a quick two player learning game and this is going to be a good, fun, and quick game.

Since we can’t make it to GenCon we decided to learn a game that just delivered from Kickstarter today. Sprocketforge from @sophisticatedcerberus

Learning Famous Stage 1. It has some cool ideas and I think it will really sing playing with other real people. The dice rolling to see how well you do at a concert venue is a nice touch.

Here we go! Hot Streak from @cmykgames is a hit. We played at three players and it was fun. I can’t wait to try it at max player count and see how much chaos this brings.

Obligatory #Origins2025 haul picture. Sorry if you don’t like these but we have been doing it since our first con and just have fun with it.
June 21, 2025 at 2:20 AM
Our #Origins2025 is now a wrap. We know the con is still going on but we have real life stuff to do the next few days. Today we came back and picked up a few games and then spent most of the day playing. So many good, and different, games were played and fun was had.

We had a great day at day 1 of #Origins2025. So many great games played and friends to play them with.

Can’t wait to try this out on our cruise next week! Got delivered just in time. @drfinnsgames.bsky.social

Playing a solo game of Le Havre tonight. This used to be my favorite Uwe game… it isn’t anymore but I still enjoy it. Also has Klemenz Franz art so there is that.
June 1, 2025 at 2:22 AM
Played La Isla and Blue Moon City with an actual person tonight! Blue Moon City is such a great game and I forget how much I like it every time.
May 30, 2025 at 1:30 AM
Played thru a two handed solo learning game of the old and busted version of Egizia. This is an interesting game that was designed by the Italians under a collective name before they really started getting popular.
May 28, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Another relearning game. This time three handed solo. Run and Pirates. A weird Stefan Feld game that a lot of people don’t like but I kind of have fun with it.
May 28, 2025 at 10:12 PM
Two player solo of Antarctica. This is a funky game that has area control, tracks, and contract fulfillment with scoring that is like nothing I have ever seen in any other game.

Refreshing myself on the rules of Firefly the Board Game. I love the show and pick up and deliver so this is one that I wanted to relearn to try again. Pretty simple overall but a lot of easy to forget little rules that I have to keep looking up.
