Just finished a great interview with @monicaskuebler.bsky.social at @ruemorguemag.bsky.social for my forthcoming book, Scared by the Bible. Such a great conversation! The article should be in their Nov/Dec issue, hitting newsstands early Nov.

If you haven't read this book yet, I'm jealous - because it means you still get to experience it for the first time. So good.

This friend took up shop outside my living room window this morning. I know she’s a common yellow garden spider, but still pretty cool.

a very text-heavy graphic features the same copy as in this threaded post. It also has an advanced reading suggestion of Brandon Grafius' previous book, Lurking Under the Surface: Horror, Religion, and the Questions that Haunt Us.

Join us at Writing the Occult: Belief on 6 Sept when we ask: What’s it like to live in a cult? Why do we get swept away by charismatic leaders? Why might someone *not* believe? Where do conspiracy theories come from? Let’s ask if the truth really is out there.

I did find that my tolerance for violence went down after having kids, at least for awhile. It came back pretty quickly for me, but I’ve known other parents for whom that was more permanent. Really interesting question!

Sitting down with a sour from Speciation Ales on Grand Rapids. What an amazing beer.

Aw, I'm glad! I was born in Oregon, and remember traveling back with my parents as a teen. I was enthralled with the Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood - exteriors for Kubrick's Shining!

Just finished reading @wnwagner.bsky.social's newest, Girl in the Creek - really fun read. Great sense of place, a cast of characters to care about.

In the theater for Oculus, there were two young women in the row in front of me. One of them started sobbing in terror about twenty minutes into the film and didn’t stop until it was over. After, I heard her friend say, “You wanted to see something scary.” —“I didn’t mean like that!!!”

It really is! And unpacked in such a fun and readable way.
