There was a time (1960s - 1994) when DoE then Defra funded oil spill detection and cleanup R&D run by DTI's WSL Lab in Stevenage. Indeed, the oil pollution division was set up after the Torrey Canyon disaster.
Wonder if anything has been retained?

My God, at least 1 red list leachate in a World heritage area!
Hopefully, UNESCO status will provide sufficient impetus to address first that then other sites.

Economic esp. financial measures impacting his backers are the only strategy that may work (with a Sino-EU pact as you say). No-one will oppose the US militarily over Greenland - a huge territory with the population of a small town.
Denmark could mine and drone its waters to make things difficult..
