But I suspect there has been a concerted effort in the Berlusconi and post-Berlusconi era to downplay the stature of a lot of the politicians from the 1st Republic, because we can't let the people remember they can and should demand better from their leaders.

I was born during his presidency so I am too young to actually remember it, but people kept talking about him for a long while afterwards - he was a very beloved figure (the first president I remember is Cossiga, who was a lot more controversial)

as a tumblr early adopter, it's kind of ironic how many of the current toxic attitudes were born there about a decade ago, but with the mass migration post porn ban it's like it purged itself and now the vibes are mostly very chill. Still the best place for fandom imo

It's so fascinating to me as someone who is, at this point, a Fandom Old, because I can't imagine being the kind of person that is plagued by visions and *not* catch the bug as soon as you get online. We probably are more siloed than it seems 🤔

I'm sorry but this doesn't match my experience when many of my favorite books, and pieces of media in general have been stuff I quite literally stumbled upon and gave a chance to. I don't feel the need to optimize the process

yeah they're a bad *generic* gift; they require some actual effort to get to know the person you're giving them to and their taste, which says something of where op is coming from here.

the one thing where he vaaaaguely has a point is the gift thing, and it's because books make a bad *generic* gift; but of course he assumes the gift giver can't possibly have put some thought into figuring out what the giftee would like, and instead chose based on their own preferences

a nice thing about bluesky is that if you want to post this kind of inane bait, you have to do it for free. Purely for the love of the game. Or maybe you write for The Economist.
