Cinderella's great too.

That's I consider the 2016 Jungle Book to be my favorite of not just the Disney live-action remakes, but of all the live-action remakes period. It improved on the 1967 animated film while also maintaining that film's charm and even adding in elements of Kipling's novel.

By the way, I should also let you know that when I went to see the How to Train Your Dragon remake, I was about ready to leave the theater during the first 15 minutes. I'm honestly glad I didn't, but that tells you something.

Thanks bro!

Those movies are classics and no live-action versions are ever going to replace them even if they're good as well.

As for Moana, I'm definitely skipping that one regardless.

But I'm not going to convince anyone to watch the live-action How to Train Your Dragon if they don't want to. I didn't want to either, but the positive reception made me curious and I saw it and was delighted by it. You make your own decisions and just continue to enjoy the animated trilogy.

Gerard Butler at least still felt like the Stoick we all knew and loved from the animated films. So I have hope that Cate Blanchett will still feel like the same Valka we know and love as well. Only this time in live-action.

Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen aside, the vocal performances from everyone ranged from just okay to terribly miscast. Even James Earl Jones didn't have the same energy like he did in the 1990s when working on the original animated film. Thinking about it now, maybe they could've recast Mufasa.

It also didn't help that the very little new stuff it had was just pointless filler to fill out its nearly 2 hour runtime. I even remember when they stretched the scene where Simba's mane flies to Rafiki. Just boring and useless much like the movie itself.

The Lion King remake was a shot-for-shot remake that didn't work because it lost all of the original's heart and soul by trying to be too realistic. It may have worked for Jungle Book, but Lion King just doesn't translate as well with that technology.

I am usually not a fan of shot-for-shot remakes. But if they add new material to help give the story more depth, then I'm okay with it especially if the actors do the characters justice (which they did). Having Dean DeBlois come back as the director I think also helped.

Masterpiece incoming.

Maybe it's because of where I've just grown tired of the MCU, which I'm not alone in that regard. But I still wanna give it a fair chance. Hopefully, the Super Bowl trailer will get me more excited.

Also, since Dune has proven to be big itself, releasing it alongside Doomsday would be very risky. So Warner Bros. better think long and hard about it.

Huh, that's interesting!
January 13, 2026 at 8:06 PM
As big as they were, they were still no match for Barbenheimer.
January 13, 2026 at 8:05 PM
And even that's questionable. I don't know if it'll make No Way Home money in all honesty, but I'm sure it could come close.

I know a lot of people want Dunesday to be a thing like Barbenheimer was in 2023. But I just don't see it happening. That felt like a once in a lifetime event.
January 13, 2026 at 7:48 PM
Yeah, pretty much!
January 13, 2026 at 7:39 PM
I'm not as worried about that happening. Although Doomsday will more than likely be the biggest movie of the year, but it won't make Infinity War/Endgame money. The MCU still makes money, but it's not quite the juggernaut it once was.
