In addition, the voting was close in each state and within the polling ranges. Each vote is an independent event and not related to the other. Voters breaking the same way isn’t common, particularly when the Harris campaign spit the bit as badly as it did.

For starters, “swing” states is a pretty new concept and not well defined. We have had multiple candidates win wide swaths of the nation before, which would have included multiple close states in polling.
