There are lots of things wrong with Medicare Advantage (which now encompasses over half of Medicare enrollment) but one of the worst is that plans are constantly leaving unprofitable markets which allows remaining plans to raise premiums and cut benefits. The MA plan often then re-enter the market.

Trump has already ruined the ACA marketplace for 2025 at least. Not knowing how to price risk, insurers and providers are scrambling to exit their ACA contracts. We need a better way. We should keep the enhanced ACA brackets and let people buy into Medicare or Medicaid at no more than those amounts.

Early warning that these ~20% of Senate Democrats are going to be fighting us in 2028 on filibuster reform, which is necessary to undo the damage that Trump has done. Filibuster reform must be a litmus test for Senate candidates.

Reminder that ~80% of your health insurance premium in any given year funds *someone else’s* healthcare. If you got seriously ill there is no HSA that could cover your costs. Replacing insurance middlemen makes sense, but it needs to be someone who can always pay and is a tough negotiator—Uncle Sam.

The battle over enhanced ACA subsidies is a proxy fight over politics more than policy. To the extent that it’s about policy ~3.5M people are affected. But it’s also about whether ACA spending should continue to be uncapped, which originally it wasn’t. It ties back to the basic problem with the ACA.

The military advocate general who leaked the Sde Teiman abuse video (and the only person so far punished) left a suicide note and was found on the beach. She will now be held in custody. Meanwhile lawyers are arguing no Israeli soldier should ever be charged for abusing Palestinians because 10/7.

I follow English-language coverage of Gaza closely and yet I have no idea what to make of this AJE report. Rafah and most of Khan Younis are on IDF side of the yellow line. How are there Hamas police enforcing price controls? Rafah was said to be razed. What market? How many people are still there?

The difference between Big Tent Socialism and whatever Ezra is talking about is everybody has to be committed to the ideology of guaranteeing everyone a good life. I think Ezra is saying he wants to resurrect mile-wide inch-deep Dem coalitions like Obama did, briefly, in 2008. It’s not enough.
