Talk of carfree streets often assume they're only possible in the Central City; but thanks to visionary politicians, neighborhood advocates and supportive city policy, we are finally seeing plazas extend way beyond downtown.

Roseway Plaza brings carfree street to NE 72nd
Permanent median barriers, heavy-duty furnishings, a vibrant mural (that will last a long time without car tires on it), and a basketball court welcome folks into a new plaza on NE Mason at 72nd. (Pho...

Great news from Portland Parks. They've made it easier and cheaper for mobile vendors to set up at local parks!

Food trucks & other vendors make public spaces sticky & build community.

Hope this gives momentum to @councilorgreen.bsky.social hot dog ordinance. www.portland.gov/parks/news/2...

PBOT made a first pass at cutting back vegetation w a maintenance truck. Volunteers with hand tools did the rest.

One of the event organizers believes this event should be a model of how city government works with community orgs in a time of tight budgets.

good question. I'm not sure if they plan to post this on the Shift calendar, which is usually the best option for folks who don't use social media. I'll post it on the BP advocacy calendar if necessary and will also share details in blog posts like i did today bikeportland.org/2025/10/06/n...

Riders file complaint after Hillsboro PD pull over Westside Critical Mass
The riders were on a road with no bike lane and clearly had a legal right to be in the lane.

Just finished catching up with Washington County cycling activist Rob Lewis. He's the organizer of Westside Critical Mass, which was pulled over by Hillsboro PD on Saturday. Video of conversation up a bit later today.

We talked about what happened at the Mayor Wilson event, how bikes can help fight the Trump Administration's aggressive and unlawful use of federal forces in Portland, and we learned more about the work and motivations of a trio of activists on the front lines.

I strongly support expanding TriMet and have started to call around to Metro Councilors about what the barriers are to Metro taking over TriMet so that local control can enable greater investment. The state cut TriMet funding, not the City, and regardless of who runs it, we need to expand it.

The same folks who shouted down my interview with the Mayor at Hike Hapoy Hour a few weeks ago came back tonight… and it was great. Everyone shared and listened and made connections and learned. This is how we build a stronger community! 🙏🏻💪🏻❤️

With Portland's program (soft) launching this week, I figured this new University of British Columbia study (with a PSU alum as co-author!) was worth highlighting.

Come out tonight. Let's talk about how to respond to Trump's bullshit, learn more about the fight to keep immigrants safe from ICE, and whatever else you want to talk about.

Also, bring a jacket! We might have some indoor space available too. Either way, crowds > clouds.

Hope you'll come out to the plaza this week! I'm looking forward to learning more from anti-ICE and immigrant justice activists about where our values and skills align and how we can help each other.

Watching councilors Morillo, Green, and others share timely videos that reach thousands of people & I'm remembering how some pundits would dismiss social media followings/skill as unserious (esp w Morillo). Now it seems to me like councilors without this ability are really paying the price.

Instead of making their arguments stronger, or building coalitions and making compromises with fellow lawmakers, Republicans chose to do their politics on social media and in grandstanding floor and committee speeches.
