I get a sense that SDOT staff, under the Harrell administration, are "complying in advance" of anticipated mayoral pushback. If @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social gives staff permission to be bold and then has their back when things get tough, SDOT can do groundbreaking work.

Without reading the content, at first I thought this was about car bloat

Wonder if he signed them all by hand

Totally agree. Completely.

But I'd also like the remaining individual cars to not be operated by tired, drunk, angry humans.

Everything I've heard about waymo is that they're way safer than human drivers
December 3, 2025 at 8:02 PM
but also, that study didn't really answer what I was asking - which is what Waymo and AVs are replacing.

I suspect that they're eating more of a share out of TNCs than transit, since (unfortunately) a lot of people have already changed from transit to TNCs.
December 3, 2025 at 6:07 PM
yep. we're in the bad place. we have thousands of sleep deprived, rushed, drivers all over the place.

I'd love to revert all of those TNC trips to transit/walk/bike but i don't how much we can claw back. We should keep working for it, but I'd rather then be ~90% safer with what we can't get back
December 3, 2025 at 6:07 PM
I would love to see an analysis of what these are most directly competing with.

I think you're right that some of it is trips that would otherwise be transit; but I would also assume it's largely taking away Uber and Lyft trips at this point.

waymo has been operating, full AV, for about 5 years already.

Only in limited markets but no one expected "full AV" to mean successfully swerving through Kolkata during a typhoon.

based on the subhead, it seems like they're gonna write about deflation.

which is bad but also kinda different???

All four were considered, public/local preference went in different directions. What bakes my noodle is why “Downtown Redmond” was considered brief and easy to remember while “Redmond Downtown” wasn’t. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay so what should we do in the mean time? Ignore the signals? Use the crosswalk signal?
