Unleashing my inner poet, petting all the dogs I can, and riding my bike with great aplomb and alacrity. Vegetarian (yes, I like tofu) animal lover. Grower of plants.
Something I learned today: drivers DON'T know that passing someone closer than 3 feet is against the law. Me: you're breaking the law. (Driver 6 in. away). Driver: What law? Me: you have to give me 3 feet. Driver: well, splutters, you have to stay in the bike lane. There was no bike lane, folks.

Are you even from Wisconsin if you don't take out the trash or recycling (or even feed the birds and critters) without a coat?

You can't always take long rides where you can get to miles and miles of uninterrupted riding, and even if you do, you still have to deal with this: at least 8 stoplights and 8 stop signs in a short 10 mile route, doubled for the round trip ... most are not necessary. Why does this matter? Read on:

It's pretty exciting that the city is trying to secure funding to extend the Powerline Trail to St. Francis, but I doubt they're building tunnels under the freeways, but maybe it's a chance to fix 6th St. and Bolivar, especially East Bolivar near Pennsylvania.

People are complaining that the Trump administration changed their font usage from Calibri to Times New Roman. FFS, people, Calibri is a terrible font. I get the readability issue with serif vs. sans serif fonts, but Times New Roman is a great font. But might I suggest Helvetica Neue?

Oh, my god. Oh, my god! They plowed the Broadway bridge so you can actually ride over it ... on both sides. That makes up for the zero plowing of the bike lanes on the KKRT, maybe. But ... oh, my god! Thank you!

I did not ride my bike today - too gross - and it makes me squirrelly. There's really no better way to start the day.

I'm not sure how much Presidents change the economy, but I do know that we are in the place we are because of corporate greed. We have idolized profits over people. Corporations have raked in profits, but have kept wages stagnant for the majority, while demanding more and better productivity.

The streets were better after the Thanksgiving holiday snowfall.

Sometimes brushing your hair with a good brush feels so good.

Bay Street is a raised, "protected" bike lane. I rarely use it because it's little more than a paint-only lane that's not street level; parking and buses are allowed there, too. Anyway, from the look of it, the west side was not plowed. Lots of tire tracks on it, though. Does someone know for sure?

Mandela Barnes? No, thank you.

Have you been to Drexel Town Square in Oak Creek? It wants to be the walkable, 15-minute city. The catch? You have to drive there.

And we thought Donald Rumsfeld was bad.

Folks, if you take the KKRT and haven't been on it after the snow, I highly recommend not traveling south. The hill down to Maple is pure ice under a dusting of snow. The trail is icy, too. The Cermak trail and exit at Washington is also plowed in. Why can't we figure this stuff out.

Adventures in winter biking. Most of the streets in my neighborhood remain unplowed, including bike lanes. I'm trying to cobble together routes. The newly repaved Waterford is not plowed, but part of the incredibly bad Norwich is. Rode on the Howard "bike" lane. Don't recommend that at all.

Advice, please: I'm tired of fighting with DPW to get the bridges or at least the sidewalks to be usable on bike routes. Do I continue to go through DPW or do I get alders and supervisors involved? I don't understand why we can't get the bike strip cleared. The lane wasn't even clean on St. Paul.

Please plow the bridges. Please. Please. Please. And, if you can't, make entrance to sidewalk possible. Neither of these situations was the case this morning. I can ride through small amounts, but 8 inches of crunchy snow. It's a losing battle.

I'm sure glad someone's bike infrastructure got plowed. None of it, and I mean zero, was plowed on the southside. I rode Chase this a.m. and just claimed the lane, which, of course, provoked the "Get in the bike lane!", to which I responded: you use it. Learn the law before screaming at someone.

Curious to know whose streets were plowed. None around my area were. Howell, Bolivar and 3rd got some, but it was poor quality. All the rest of the streets were terrible. Was this a holiday thing? I didn't see one plow. Why do we pay taxes?

Tons of errands today before the snow ... all by bike. 30 miles. 3 stores. Wasn't too bad at Blain's, which i thought would be worse. I wouldn't normally go out on Black Friday, but the birds and squirrels need to eat!

Getting a flat tire on the way home from groceries is so awesome. At least I can change a tube in under 5 minutes. Good times. Good times. But this spicy bloody mary is hitting (and so is the tiny High Life chaser).

An owl flew right in front of me on the way home. As a bonus, a pack of coyotes was having choir rehearsal in Seminary Woods. I'm sorry for all the folks not on bikes who couldn't experience this in their cars.

On a positive note: DPW was cleaning the trail this morning. There was broken glass everywhere. He even made space for me to go around. Starting an attitude of gratitude mindset.

Re: 794
The Hoan exit in Bay View is an eyesore and a challenge for every person not in a car. It's worth mentioning this fact because this is exactly where the infrastructure picks up again for people. Accessing it requires navigating through freeway traffic, with no way to avoid it.
