Avanyu is the energy of water. Its curving shape suggests flowing water. It represents rain, lighting, thunder, clouds, and life giving crops. Avanyu blesses the puebloan peoples with rain. By placing Avanyu in an arroyo, I am requesting rains to come and water to flow again in this dry creek bed.

The raven is an important animal/symbol to many Native American peoples. However, those of the Northwest Coast tell a story of Raven tricking an old man onto releasing the sun, to light the whole earth. Here I am blending 2 world views: Western Impressionism with a Native American symbol of a Raven.
