Sent TfL an email to clarify the situation after you messaged me. Just got a reply from them. Confirmed that the frequency has decreased during the day Monday to Saturday. I would not be surprised if this route is split into two in future because of its meandering route.

What a mess...ha ha!! Not surprising though.

Might have to drop them a line to see what the real situation will be come Saturday & beyond.

This is what I received from TfL. Unless they inadvertently missed out the word early! Possible I suppose...
Also noticed that Go Ahead are planning a new garage on Purland Road, Thamesmead; accommodating 139 buses with electric charging infrastructure.

Let's be honest Murky, they are playing a blinder on the "reducing emissions from transport" front when they allow the 472 route to be axed. Reduce emissions from when those hybrids go into diesel mode, just like that...

Second stabbing in two consecutive days now; the other yesterday just up the road near Shooters Hill College, that young lad still fighting for his life. To do that on a bus is just unimaginable, horrific.
