I saw that in Iraq 2004/05.
Made perfect sense to me, but some of my colleagues paid the ultimate price for our ignorance.
There is a threshold of violence against the citizenry that would create a backlash against Trump that we haven’t reached yet.

I think it would have been better if the armistice signed in 1918 didn’t suffocate the Weimar Republic to the point where Hitler seemed like a viable option. Hitler was not that popular in 1933.

If Trump orders the military to engage with American citizens then I would expect mass resignations among our generals and staff officers. Many enlisted will as well, but probably not as many as you’d like.

They have repeatedly deprived citizens of their Constitutional rights and will continue to do so. Local police departments are huge Trump supporters.

I have far more trust and respect for the military than I do with local police departments and ICE.
FWIW, we had a nickname for the Military Police (MP’s) in the Marine Corps and it was Mommas Pu****s.

Now is not the time to make rash decisions regarding being openly defiant with Trump and his policies.
That’s what he wants, IMO, and to go that route with him would invite calamity. Many, if not a majority, of Americans support his immigration policies, illegal though they may be.

My impression of the recent meeting with the generals and Trump is that Trump was met with stone silence and a quite serious professional attitude.
ICE, on the other hand, is Trump’s paramilitary force and I see no evidence that they’re exhibiting any professionalism.
