What’s the point of posting on social media if not to engage with others?

I was citing my Bluesky experience as an example of how engagement dropped when I left Twitter. I'd add that what has happened since suggests that removing ourselves from a platform does nothing to deter nazis, serving only to embolden them.

By marginalised, I mean we lose engagement. In 24 hours, I've had 355 comments on my Hazony essay on Facebook. Here, just one, you. I'm not going back to Twitter, but you can't deny that it facilitated engagement with a huge amount of people.

But all websites mine data off of visitors. And we've seen with the demise of Twitter what happens when we leave the space because nazis. They flourish and we get marginalised.

Apologies for my tone. But if we keep vacating the spaces where people gather in order to advertise our purity, we are doing the right's work for them, marginalising ourselves and leaving the stage to them. Look what has happened to Twitter.

Every time I move to a "less worse" platform, someone turns up within days to tell me I shouldn't be here. What do you want me to do? Stand on a soapbox in the street and yell at passersby?
